Association History and Goals

As early as 1980 our members were expressing the desire to have a

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN Association.

The aim of this association was to be a truly professional group of dedicated Authorised Celebrants who were enthusiastic towards the practice of high standards and who could communicate with Western Australian people on a friendly and open basis. Professionalism and the will to make your WEDDING DAY one of the most memorable events in your life is the aim and desire of each member. These dedicated Celebrants will ensure your complete satisfaction for the most important day of your lives.

Authorised Marriage Celebrants hold a Letter of Appointment signed by the Commonwealth Attorney General or his/her delegate under the Marriage Act, 1961 which authorises them to:-

Solemnise Marriages at any place in Australia.

It is the duty of a Marriage Celebrant to:
Undergo Compulsory yearly Ongoing Professional Development in accordance with the Marriage Act to retain their license

Provide a high quality of service Give accurate, honest and complete advice on wedding arrangements

Guide clients in the composition of and choices for their wedding ceremony
Seek to provide efficient, professional and ethical ceremonies to meet the needs of the Client
Seek to continually improve their knowledge and skills
Recognise the social and cultural importance of ceremonies in the Australian Community, whilst encouraging Clients to choose the form of marriage ceremony that best suits their needs
Maintain at all times, a standard of excellence in their professional conduct and practice
Perform marriage ceremonies for a fair and reasonable fee, agreed beforehand with clients

Please Note: there are Two types of Marriage Celebrants:- authorised under the Marriage Act 1961 to perform marriage
(1) Civil Celebrants - perform civil marriage ceremonies.

and (2) Religious Celebrants - these do not belong to a mainstream Religion or Church
but can perform only religious ceremonies
Only Authorised Celebrants under the Marriage Act of 1961 can legally marry you, a 'General Celebrant' or 'Funeral Celebrant' CANNOT!
